Sino-British University Engineering Innovation Center for Smart Energy to be Established

Date:2020年08月06日

A Sino-British University Engineering Innovation Center for Smart Energy is to be established according to the agreement reached during the preparatory meeting held by Tianjin University School of Electrical and Information Engineering and the Engineering Education and Research Alliance of the Sino-British University on April 16th at Tianjin University. Professor Li Kang from the University of Leeds and Professor Wu Jianzhong, the head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Cardiff University attended the meeting as the main sponsors of the Sino-British Engineering Education and Research Alliance while Professor Wang Chengshan, Dean of the Tianjin University School of Electrical and Information Engineering led the Tianjin University team in the discussion.

At the meeting, the two parties exchanged ideas and progress on the construction of the emerging engineering education in Tianjin University, and the development of the engineering education and research alliance of the Sino-British University. The China-UK University Smart Energy Innovation Center aims to promote large-scale cooperation in education and scientific research and serve as the platform for sustainable Sino-British communication and Sino-British industry-university cooperation in research and education. In the near future, the center will organize high-level forums on emerging engineering education and talent cultivation, set up training courses about engineering leadership and innovation, initiate international events on smart energy and build innovative technology incubators.

The Sino-British University Engineering Education and Research Alliance was established in 2017. It is the first university alliance featuring engineering education and research established by the Chinese and British governments. Its members comprise nine Chinese universities of the Excellent University Alliance which are noted for engineering disciplines including Tianjin University, the UK's Russell Group's nine well-known universities (Queen's University of Belfast, Cambridge University, Leeds University, Birmingham University, Cardiff University, University College London, University of Nottingham, University of Liverpool and Warwick University). The members uphold the concepts of “Powerful Combination, Pioneering and Innovating, Learning from Each Other, Sharing and Win-Win”, carrying out systematic cooperation in the field of education and scientific research and jointly promoting win-win developments for both countries.

The Tianjin University School of Electrical and Information Engineering has maintained long-term cooperative relations with many universities such as Cambridge University, Imperial College, Manchester University, University of Birmingham, University of Leeds, and Cardiff University. It co-chairs four major Sino-British international cooperation projects, and has trained nearly 100 outstanding students for international research.
