In 2023, School of Electrical and Information Engineering (SEIE) in Tianjin University celebrates its 90th anniversary. The ‘1933 Lectures’ series of lectures are organized in SEIE to carry forward the scientific spirit and humanistic sentiment. Academician Yu Yixin, an expert in the fields of power system security and stability, urban power grid planning, and smart grid, was invited as the first speaker in “1933 Lectures”.
Academician Yu Yixin has conducted in-depth theoretical research and engineering applications, and has achieved cutting-edge explorations. During the lecture, Academician Yu Yixin shared his experience for decades with the topic of “Carrying Forward the Scientific Spirit and Adhering to Academic Ethics”.
Academician Yu began with an introduction to his research experience. As the earliest graduate student in the field of power system in China, he shared his experience with the audience. “Your teacher can open the door but you must enter by yourself”, Academician Yu said in his lecture. Meanwhile, Academician Yu mentioned that we are in an environment of "valuable opportunities and great responsibilities", and “constant effort yields sure success”, encouraging students to set high standards and pursue them persistently. He also said that students should always keep in mind that “scientific research should focus on practical contributions it makes to the society.”
Based on his research, Academician Yu shared methods of scientific research in detail. He emphasized that scholars should make efforts on key scientific and technological issues and that the real scientific creativity is always built on a good grounding in research. In the lecture, Academician Yu also highlighted that scholars should try to be keen and confident, and adhere to the principle of “seeking truth from facts”. Finally, Academician Yu added that all supervisors and graduate students should work together.
At the end of the event, Li Jiping, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the SEIE, presented Academician Yu Yixin with a plate of the “1933 Lectures”.
